I visited the Undercliff Winery in Wollombi in the weekend. I have posted some images of the willow tree here. I met the winery owner and he seemed hesitant about suspending any pbjects form the willow due to the narrow width of the boughs. The final sculpture will weigh approximately 60kg. I advised him that I would spread the load evenly across three or more boughs to avoid damage to the tree. I am keen on suspending it in the willow, however he also suggested a stand of three gumtrees to suspend from. I will have to wait and see what he and the curator say after they meet and discuss the work. The choice is a visual one for me, wither site will be the same in terms of the sounds found there. It is very quiet on the property and I am concerned that this may make the resonance of the object less pronounced. The stand of gum trees is closer to a driveway, which would mean there would be intermittent car sounds and wheels on gravel, offering a fairly wide frequency range of source sound. More thought is needed on this.
I have also finished the main structure of the sculpture and have covered it in lime wash. Since then I have taken delivery of some of the rope and have started to play with the weaving for the installation. You can see images here.
